Shirt Ideas
We Asked ChatGPT, Claude & Gemini to Pick Hawaiian Shirts
We gave ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini the same Hawaiian shirt challenge. All three chose the same shirt for Vegas and for the cruise. The office went three ways.

Short answer: they agree more than you’d expect. All three chatbots sent the bachelor party to Vegas in Casino Jackpot and the family cruise in Blue Hibiscus Breeze. They split on Dad’s BBQ, and Hawaiian Shirt Day at the office got three different answers.
We gave ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini the same job on September 29, 2026: here is a list of our designs, pick one for four occasions and tell us why. One try each, no follow-up questions, and the answers below are quoted as they came back.
How we ran it
- ChatGPT: the free version at chatgpt.com, not logged in. The app didn’t show which model answered.
- Gemini: gemini.google.com, not logged in. The app showed 3.5 Flash-Lite.
- Claude: Claude Opus 5.5, asked in a brand-new session that knew nothing about us or this post.
A note on fairness: Claude is made by Anthropic, and we used Claude to help put this post together. That’s why Claude got the prompt in a separate, empty session, and why we aren’t naming a winner. None of the three companies knows about this post or had any part in it.
This is the exact prompt all three received:
You're helping me pick a Hawaiian shirt. Available designs: Alien Invasion, Aloha Bloom, Aloha Brews, Aloha Vibes, Barbecue Time, BBQ Feast Paradise, BBQ Royale Night, Beach Holiday, Blue Hibiscus Breeze, Brew Buddies, Casino Jackpot, Citrus Splash, Coconut Paradise Cocktail, Funky Brew Paradise. Pick one design for each situation and explain in 1-2 funny sentences: 1) Hawaiian Shirt Day at the office 2) a bachelor party in Vegas 3) my dad's 60th birthday BBQ 4) a family cruise. Bonus: invent a name for a brand-new print.
Round 1: Hawaiian Shirt Day at the office
- ChatGPT picked Aloha Brews: “Perfect for pretending your spreadsheet review is a tropical coffee tasting session.”
- Claude picked Alien Invasion: “Nothing says ‘I come in peace’ to HR like tiny UFOs beaming up cows.”
- Gemini picked Aloha Vibes: “You’ll blend right into the corporate luau while secretly planning your escape at 5:00 PM.”
Three chatbots, three shirts. Gemini went for blending in, ChatGPT for a drink-themed alibi, and Claude chose the print most likely to start a conversation at the coffee machine. If your office has a dress code, Gemini’s reasoning is the one to follow.
Round 2: A bachelor party in Vegas
- ChatGPT picked Casino Jackpot: “It’s the perfect outfit for a groom who wants his shirt to gamble before he does.”
- Claude picked Casino Jackpot: “What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas, but this shirt will be in every blurry photo anyway.”
- Gemini picked Casino Jackpot: “Nothing screams ‘what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas’ quite like wearing a shirt that looks like a slot machine threw up on you.”
A clean sweep. Two of the three also reached for “what happens in Vegas,” so the jokes were as unanimous as the picks. For a whole crew, the bachelor party shirts page has more options, and from eleven shirts the price steps down automatically.
Round 3: Dad’s 60th birthday BBQ
- ChatGPT picked BBQ Royale Night: “A dad turning 60 deserves a shirt with the confidence of a backyard grill master wearing a crown.”
- Claude picked BBQ Royale Night: “Hand him the tongs like a scepter and let the king rule his grill.”
- Gemini picked Barbecue Time: “It’s practically mandatory uniform for standing by the grill with tongs in hand while lecturing everyone about charcoal temperatures.”
ChatGPT and Claude both read “60th” as a coronation. Gemini went for the dad who explains charcoal. Both are fair, and both shirts look better with the birthday dad’s face in the print.
Round 4: A family cruise
- ChatGPT picked Blue Hibiscus Breeze: “It’s classy enough for family photos and colorful enough to hide the fact that someone forgot sunscreen.”
- Claude picked Blue Hibiscus Breeze: “It’s calm enough to pass Grandma’s dinner-table inspection, and it matches the ocean so well that you might vanish in photos.”
- Gemini picked Blue Hibiscus Breeze: “Classy enough to survive grandma’s disapproving glare at the captain’s dinner, yet tropical enough for day-drinking by the buffet.”
Another sweep, and two of them brought Grandma into it. If the whole family is matching on board, our cruise shirts page has more designs to compare.
Bonus round: name a new print
- ChatGPT: “Tiki Time Warp,” with retro tikis, pineapples in sunglasses and palm trees “that look like they’re late for a beach party.”
- Claude: “Tiki Out of Office,” with tiki masks in sunglasses tossing laptops into the surf. “It’s an auto-reply email you can wear.”
- Gemini: “Mid-Life Crisis Oasis,” with neon palm trees melting into a cocktail glass shaped like a sports car.
None of these exist yet. Two of them put tikis and sunglasses in the same print, so maybe one should.
Scoreboard
| Occasion | ChatGPT | Claude | Gemini |

| Bachelor party in Vegas | Casino Jackpot | Casino Jackpot | Casino Jackpot |

We’re not picking a winner. You can pick yours.
What none of them could do
All three chose shirts without seeing a single face, and that’s the part that decides whether a shirt works. A chatbot can’t show you how your dad looks in BBQ Royale Night. Our live preview can: upload one clear photo, choose any design from this post and check the print before you pay.
Frequently asked questions
Is this post sponsored by OpenAI, Anthropic or Google?
No. We’re not affiliated with any of them. ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini are trademarks of their owners.
Would I get the same answers?
Probably not word for word. Chatbots give different answers to the same prompt, and the models behind them change often. Copy the prompt above, swap in designs from our shop and see what you get. For more ways to use a chatbot for shirt planning, try our 12 prompts.
What is a “Claude Hawaiian shirt” usually?
Search for it and you’ll mostly find shirts printed with Claude Monet’s water lilies, plus a few nods to Claude from Grand Theft Auto III. “Gemini Hawaiian shirt” usually means the zodiac sign, which is why we wrote a separate post on Gemini shirts for twins.
Key takeaway
Three different chatbots agreed on Vegas and on the cruise, and couldn’t agree on the office. Whichever one you trust with the choice, put your face in the print and look at it before you order.
